FOCO's 'Cientifik' is set to play an upcoming show at 'The Pit' this Friday March 18th.

That said, we thought it would be a good time to re-post this epic story.

This piece was originally written due to the Colorado rapper being a huge fight fan, specifically MMA.

He started the legendary interview by speaking on where his name came from.

"Science is truth and fact. That's what I represent. There's so many fake cats out there. Also the knowledge I have of the music process and the game. Another name for the studio is 'The Lab' so that kind of  ties in also."

After living in spots like Detroit, Dallas, and Philadelphia, 'Cientifik' ended up in Colorado when his Dad got promoted. That's when he started carving out his spot in the Rocky Mountain rap scene.

"I got to a point where everybody was telling me man, you have some skills, you should really get serious. And then one day, I went out, spent a thousand bucks on some studio equipment and pretty much taught myself how to use it."

In the years since, he's bought his own studio, been on stage with 'Young Buck' and 'Spice 1', and become one of the faces of Colorado rap. He contributes much of the success to staying busy everyday.

"I'm always working whether its studio time, shows, networking, or promotion. I have a very strong work ethic, drive, dedication, and high standard for quality finished product which sets me apart from a lot of artists."

'Cientifik' is looking to end the year big as he has already dropped two CD's recently.

"I'm about to release my second album called 'Cold And Calculated' plus another one with local artists C-Nile Da-Vincci and Jaize Vancrump called 'Colorado Connection Volume One'."

With the digital age we now live in, I was curious how 'Cientifik' felt technology has affected the music industry by making it easier for artists to do more with less.

"Back in the day, the older artists that I grew up with pretty much just had their street promotional team and and word of mouth like mom and pop stores. Now everything is digitally connected at the push of a button. You can find anything you're looking for."

Although Colorado doesn't always get the most recognition from the East and West coasts, there's a lot of established rappers here and even more that have gone unrecognized due to lack of proper management and/or promotion.

Something 'Cientifik' took note of.

"That's why after becoming a solo artist recently, I established my own company called 'CIENTIFIK ENT'. Colorado's music game is basically an untapped resource as far as hip hop goes. There are a lot of hungry focused artists that still need to be recognized."

Like all the artists we've talked to here at Uppercuts Inc., 'Cientifik' also follows the fight game. In this case MMA. In fact, his favorite "fight moment" was one only true long time MMA fans would remember.

"I started watching MMA way back in the nineties when it was primitive bare knuckles and have been following it ever since. My favorite fighter is Quinton "Rampage" Jackson. Ever since I saw him pick Ricardo Arona up off the ring, lift him over his head and slam him, I've been a believer. I also have a lot of friends that fight and a few that hold belts on the local circuits.

"I have respect for anyone doing their own thing regardless of what it is."

Watch for 'Cientfik's upcoming solo album 'Birds Of Prey' to drop soon.

'Cientifik's' music is available locally at Angelos, Independent Records, and The Finest in addition to digital format on iTunes, Amazon, Rhapsody, CD Baby and ringtones@myxer.
