Amir Khan's decision to take on game challenger Lamont Peterson in his own backyard might have back fired.
Bottome line, the referee determined the outcome in deducting not one, but two points from Khan for "pushing off."
This is not something you would normally see in boxing let alone the fact that the ref never properly warned Khan prior.
Either way, it was a great fight for the fans as the two fighters battered and beat each other for the full 12 rounds. Peterson took the worst of it with his right eye swoll shut by the final bell.
"Amir Khan was beat up, and Lamont was beat up. Amir Khan's hands were swollen from hitting that brick wall defense that Lamont had. They embraced each other and took pictures together and said, 'hopefully, we can do it again, down the stretch.' It was a beautiful view and a thing of great sportsmanship. They weren't saying this and that or talking any trash," said Lamonts younger brother Anthony.
Khan wasted no time in calling out Peterson after the crushing loss.
"I came to his home. So let's see if he's got the same balls as me. You take a shower, you get wet. You get into a fight, you get hit. That's boxing for you. I can accept that. But tonight, the ref was never on my side. I kept telling the ref, 'come on, do something about that,'" said Khan.
Even though he was still enjoying the huge win, Peterson sounded like he was ready to do it again to hush the critics.
"If it's left up to me, I would fight him tomorrow. But that's just me. I'm always ready to fight. I wouldn't mind doing it in England. The deal would have to be right. Everything would have to be right. But if it is, then I would do it."
Watch for Khan vs. Peterson II sometime in 2012.
