Let's hope the man in red finds a way to make at least half of these come to fruition.
.) Pacquiao vs. Mayweather Jr. - If you're a true combat sports fan, this is the number one fight you want to see in 2012. It's also going to be the fight that has to overcome the most obstacles to make happen. At the time of this writing, Mayweather Jr. was on his way to jail for ninety days which itself could derail the fight. . Lets also hope the 'Top Rank' and 'Golden Boy' promotions can sit down and make what would be the biggest superfight in history a reality.
.) Carwin Back In Contention - With two surgeries in the rear view mirror, Greeley's Shane "The Engineer" Carwin looks to get back on track this coming year. With the new look of the UFC heavyweight division he will have his work cut out for him. At the time of this writing, Alistair Overeem was set to meet Brock Lesnar in his UFC debut and Jr. Dos Santos annihilated the 'unstoppable' Cain Velasquez. Can Carwin get back in contention in 2012?
.) Donald Cerrone Title Shot - No one has taken care of business in a more classy way over the years than 'Cowboy'. After first seeing his wicked standup and crisp BJJ in action at my first ROF in Castlerock, I became a believer in what he could achieve. Donald Cerrone (17-3) is slated to face the always tough Nate Diaz (14-7) December 30th. I see Cerrone winning this one by unanimous judges decision as he surges into the coming year.
.) Anderson Silva vs. Jon Jones - Outside of Pacman vs. Money, this is the other fight that most all combat sports fans hope to see in 2012. GSP vs. Silva has lost a bit of its appeal. This is due to Jon Jones pushing GSP to the backseat over 2011 in addition to most thinking 'Bones' is a better potential matchup for Silva after running rampant in the UFC. Could this one rival the numbers for a Pacman and Mayweather PPV?
.) Tournament Style Answer For Boxing - Most that follow boxing would have to agree that the Ward vs. Froch final in Showtime's recent 'Super Six' tournament was compelling and actually meant something. Not always the outcome when discussing the 'Sweet Science'. Showtime's Ken Hershman is the brains behind the idea of this type of tournament format for boxing, but he has since made a move to HBO. Let's hope the format doesn't die.
