It looks like there is some type of tentative agreement in place to have Sergio Martinez (48-2-2, 27 KOs) face Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (45-0-1, 31 KOs).
If Chavez Jr. can get by southpaw Andy Lee (28-1, 20 KOs) that is.
Martinez's adviser Sampson Lewkowicz, had this to say about the proposed fight.
"Sergio Martinez is with me at the Bel Air Hotel in Beverly Hills. We just signed the deal at 7 p.m., so now, it's up to everyone else involved.
"There must be six signatures for Chavez Jr. to fight for the title on June 16, or not to fight for the title. If not, then Jose Sulaiman has said that the WBC title will not be on the line on June 16 because they will take the title away."
By the sounds of it, Martinez can't wait to step between the ropes to face the son of a true legend.
"Now, the only thing is that I expect that Chavez Jr. and Andy Lee, Lou DiBella and Bob Arum to sign, because Jose Sulaiman and myself already have signed," said Martinez
Martinez is coming off of a TKO win over Matthew Macklin back on March 17th.
On the flip-side, Chavez Jr. is fresh off of a huge win over the always game Marco Antonio Rubio.
If the fight ends up getting signed, make mine Martinez by TKO in the 8th.
