Starting off a quality summer of Colorado boxing events, 'Battle Under The Big Top' put on by Longmont's 'Ghost Town Promotions' is set to go down this weekend. The show takes place June 15th and will feature possibly the most anticipated bout on the card as Colorado's Victor Villereal takes on Nebraska's undefeated prospect Aaron Quintana.
Villereal, a crowd favorite and once surging prospect, didn't opt to take a 'gimme' fight to start what can be called a comeback.
Utajara, Villereal's coach/trainer, knows what he and his fighter can expect from one of Nebraska's top boxers.
And what will likely determine the outcome.
"He's (Quintana) a brawler that likes to come forward but 'Vic' has been in there with that style of boxer many times.
"He's taking on a young undefeated strong boxer to show that the "vicious Vic V" is back to terrorize the supper-middleweight division once again.
"I have all the confidence that his (Villereal) experience will be the difference."
Experience, and also the inspiration he now garners from training his daughter Vannessa, a standout boxer in her own right.
One of the main reasons Villereal hasn't been as active on the boxing scene himself recently.
That said, Utajara attributes his fighters rekindled love for the sport to the time off and his daughter's love for the 'sweet science'.
"With his boxing daughter following in his footsteps and two young baby boys, he has a new angle in life and a new reason to keep on fighting."
