The Gloves Come Off In 2012

As Rocky Mountain MMA and Boxing fans look to 2012, I wanted to briefly wrap-up 2011 and let the masses in on what they can expect from 'Uppercuts Inc.' (formerly MenMustFight.com) in the coming year.

'Uppercuts Inc.' is the premier source for Rocky Mountain MMA and Boxing news from Colorado to Wyoming.

Real news. Not just fight results. Not an RSS feed from MMAJunkie or MMAWeekly. Actual typed out articles and stories, written after much thought and research from a like-minded fan.

And not just the Denver area or certain fighters, gyms, or promotions. With many so called local "media" outlets more worried about keeping their credentials or buddies than the perceived backlash that would follow if something was uttered that was politically correct, this is where 'Uppercuts Inc.' comes in.

For example, if you wanted to leave a comment stating Keith Schmeltzer from RMBB is more worried about ticket sales and counting money at the weigh-ins than the state of Colorado MMA, you would be free to do that without fear of your comment being removed.

No censorship here. And yes, it has happened.

When I first became obsessed with Mixed Martial Arts, I couldn't get my eyeballs on enough news from around the sport. After many Google searches I finally found my favorite MMA news source in MMAJunkie.com.

As you might know, MMAJunkie has nothing but clear and organized headlines from the world of MMA. No grab ass, just up to date MMA news in an easy to read format. At the time, I was contributing to MMANews.com but found myself wanting to cover more of the local fight scene, giving fans the same type of news site that "Junkie" had given me, but with a focus on the region.

That's when MenMustFight.com was born back in 2007. Since then, I have learned much about the Colorado MMA scene including identifying those that see Colorado MMA as their own, seemingly afraid to let any "outsiders" in on their beloved sport, let alone someone covering it.

Hence, a tight circle of friends that come off arrogant, caring more about rubbing elbows with fighters/promoters and being seen as much as possible at events.

Unfortunately, for every Leister Bowling III, Bobby Ryan, and Paulino Ibarra you have, you also have someone like the aforementioned Schmeltzer that does as much to hurt the sport in Colorado with their outlook as they do to allegedly help it.

As far as Colorado boxing goes, the local scene has struggled due to the sport itself being in a well documented downward spiral for years.

This is because of many factors controlled by the powers that be including too many divisions and belts. Plus no American heavyweight champion for years now.

That said, the "sweet science" has always been and always will be my first love in terms of combat sports. This is why 'Uppercuts Inc.' has gone through some changes recently as we began covering boxing in addition to trying to build up some hype here locally.

For those of you that are simply looking for all the up to the minute combat news and notes from around the region, the UFC, and professional boxing, you have found a home.

For everyone else, tuck that chin and get those hands up in 2012.

You can follow 'Uppercuts Inc.'using either your Google login, Email, or RSS feed at the top of the site or on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/MenMustFight.

See you at the fights!
