3 Boxers To Watch For In 2012

As the sport of boxing continues to re-establish itself on the landscape of mainstream sports in America, there are some exciting fighters out there that are worth watching but are not exactly household names just yet.

You could easily add more boxers to this list but here are 3 of the more exciting fighters to watch for in 2012.

1.) Nonito Donaire (28-1, 18 KOs) - The perception that the lighter fighters are more exciting to watch holds true with the four division champion dubbed the "Filipino Flash". At the time of this writing, Donaire was coming off a win over the tough but over matched Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. where he put his striking skills on display and captured the WBO super-bantamweight title. The win made him only the second Asian to win titles in four different divisions. There is no current date or opponent set for Donaire's next fight.

2.) Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (45-0-1, 31 KOs) - Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. will never fully escape the huge shadow that his legendary father casts, but the gameness that he has shown in his recent fights makes him a crowd favorite already in his young career. And in his own right, legendary father or not. At the time of this writing, Chavez Jr. was fresh off a win over the hard hitting Marco Antonio Rubio that saw him retain his WBC middleweight strap via unanimous judges decision. There is no current date or opponent set for Jr.'s next fight.

3.) Andre Ward (25-0, 13 KOs) - The most recent Olympic champion in addition to the current WBA, WBC, and 'Ring' Super Middleweight champion, Andre Ward has been able to parlay his 2004 Olympic success in Athens into a respectable professional boxing career. More recently he won Showtime's 'Super Six World Boxing Classic' after facing the scrappy Carl Froch in the finals. This after starting the tourney as a huge underdog. At the time of this writing there was no current opponent set for Ward but the news should follow soon. .

Watch for all three of these fighters to continue their winning ways through the rest of 2012.
