With three high profile fights Saturday night, it was a big weekend for combat sports fans.
The UFC was putting it's Diaz vs. Condit card up against HBO's free event that included both Nonito Donaire and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
In a surprise to many, Nick Diaz lost a tough fought unanimous decision at the hands of the "Natural Born Killer."
The relentless attack by Condit included many precise and well timed leg kicks that we have gotten used to from him, but Condit also got the better of the exchanges of hands.
The huge win sends the interim strap over to Condit until GSP is ready to go.
After the loss Diaz announced what will likely be a short retirement. You have to think there is going to be a rematch of this one at some point.
In the boxing world, HBO was host to one of the better non PPV events recently.
In the main-event you had rising start in Nonito Donaire taking on the scrappy Wilfredo Vazquez Jr.
It was expected that Donaire would win hands down but Vazquez Jr. still made a good showing. By the end of the 12 rounds, both fighters were red and puffy but with no major damage.
Donaire outpointed Vazquez Jr at 200+ by compubox to Donaire's 140+ landed shots that included Vazquez going to the canvas for the first time in his professional career.
In what was a step-up in opponents, the popular Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. kept to his winning ways as he dominated an overmatched veteran in Marco Antonio Rubio to get the unanimous judges decision.
