First, here are a couple of basics when it comes to betting on MMA.
If you can't adhere to these general guidelines, you'll have no chance of incrementally growing your bankroll over time which is the idea.
Rule number one.
Never bet more than roughly 2-5% of your total bankroll. This means if you have $100 on your online betting account, a $5 dollar bet would be about the right amount.
The exact amount will be determined by your gut instinct as a knowledgeable fight fan.
Rule number two.
You won't make long term incremental gains by betting on the favorites every time. This mostly pertains to MMA where you see better matchups than the sport of boxing unfortunately.
The amount of money wagered on a favorite versus the return is not going to be very good. For example, you might have to place $8 dollars on Anderson Silva to win $1.
As for Justin's fight tonight, the wrestler comes in playing the underdog role at a (+)110 with his opponent and decent striker Tim Means the favorite at a (-)140.
The numbers next to each fighter is referred to as the "moneyline", with the (-) indicating the favorite and a (+) next to the underdog.
This means that for every $1 wagered on Salas, you would win $1.10. On the flip-side, for every $1.40 risked on Means, your return would only be $1.
With the numbers being what they are and considering the underdog wins roughly 48-50% of the time, you can see why betting on the favorite will never work in the long term.
Both fighters are coming off of wins at the same event 'UFC On Fuel TV 1' that was held in Nebraska. Salas used his grappling skills to dispatch Anton Kuivanen and Means his striking, getting the win over Bernardo Magalhaes.
