Army Vet Dawkins Gets Big Win

Army veteran and Colorado Springs resident Marcus Dawkins of 'Altitude MMA' got back in the win column after dropping his last outing to the always tough Giovanni Merceron in May.

His fight was part of the first ever professional boxing event in Colorado Springs, courtesy of Brandon Ortega, Nick Thompson and their newly created 'Sundown Entertainment - Friday Night Fights' event.

'TheFightWire.com' had the chance to catch up with Dawkins after the bout to find out what was going through his head.

"It feels good to get back on the winning side and get back on track. He was kind of an awkward guy to fight. He switched up and threw a lot of hay makers but I just tried to stick to my game plan.

"If I would have used my jab a little more I think I could have stopped him early but it ended up going to the decision.

"It was an OK performance, but next time I will put on a better performance. I would give myself  B- or maybe a C+."

In spite of the hard earned victory, Dawkins has no plans to take any time off as he looks to step between the ropes again asap.

"I'm going to try to fight in December. If Steve Mestas has a spot on his show (Airtight Boxing) I'm with it.

"I'm trying to stay busy."

Being one of the hometown fighters on the card, we had to get his take on all those that turned out to see him fight.

"It felt really good.

"I honestly didn't think this many people would come out to see me. I feel blessed. It's was a blessing to have this many people turnout and be able to see me showcase my skills.

"It motivates me to get better and progress as a fighter."

Dawkins wanted to send a special thanks to Brandon Ortega, Nick Thompson, his fellow Army veterans and soldiers, all the fighters on the card and all the fans that came out to show support for the event.
