'Ghost Town' Aiding CO Boxing

Longmont - Next Saturday, November 23rd, Raul Utajara and his 'Ghost Town Promotions' will lend a helping hand to 'La Familia Boxing' and the 'WBC Cares Foundation' on a day when fighting will be only a by-product of a bigger cause, 'Champions For Charity'.

Randy Lopez and his 'La Familia' Colorado boxing gym (Longmont) were for the most part completely annihilated by the recent flooding we had in the state and thus is in the process of what amounts to starting over.

With the Colorado boxing community circling the wagons for the gym, it should make the transition a little easier.

The fundraiser is a boxing event that was created to aide the long process of getting back up and running for 'La Familia Boxing' and their fighters.

'TheFightWire.com' had a chance to recently speak with Utajara about the much anticipated day and what the event aims to accomplish.

"We (Longmont) were hit pretty hard with the floods up here.

"Luckily, my gym (Ghost Town Gladiators) is in an area where it didn't get hit but there's another gym (La Familia Boxing) that was totally devastated and destroyed so we are going to donate all the proceeds we get at the gate to help them rebuild.

"We (Ghost Town) event opened up our doors to for them to workout at my place. It's kind of a unique situation where we have two cross-town rivals that are now working in unison, trying to get them back on their feet."

In addition to this great cause, Utajara also let us know about a presentation at the event to recognize, motivate and help a young amateur boxer who recently suffered a significant brain injury during a routine sparring session.

"We are also going to do a presentation there to honor John Espinoza, a thirteen year old boxer who was seriously injured in a boxing accident.

"We want to keep his spirits up. The 'WBC Cares Foundation' is going to be donating awards and medals for the fighters and doing a little something for Espinoza."

The weigh-ins for 'Champions For Charity' will be held at the 'Longmont Athletic Club' from 8-10am, match-ups at 11am, physical’s at 1pm and fights beginning at 2pm next Saturday.

Anyone planning to attend is asked to bring a non-perishable food item for the 'Longmont Food Bank'.

Admission, which is in essence a donation, is $10 per person. For more information contact coach Raul Utajara at 720-296-6176.
