'Warriors Conquest' A Success

UppercutsNews.com recently caught up with Colorado boxing promoter Raul Utajara after his groundbreaking 'Warriors Conquest' event put on by 'Ghost Town Promotions'.

The highly anticipated card was held at the 'Boulder County Events Center' back on June 30th and featured a headliner of Colorado's Raul Carrillo vs. New Mexico's Josh Torres.

The bout more than lived up to the hype as fans in attendance were witness to a gutsy win by Carrillo that crowned him the top Southwest prospect in the ongoing border rivalry.

Going into the event with eyes wide open, Utajara had modest expectations after other promotions had ventured into Northern Colorado with less than stellar results.

"Considering all the struggles we had heading into it and going into a new area, it kind of worried me a little bit. Other promoters had tried putting on a show up here (Northern CO) and it wasn't as successful."

In spite of his initial worries about possible attendance numbers, the buzz began to grow as the event approached and the rest is history.

A rebirth of northern Colorado boxing in a sense.

"As we started getting closer, we started getting a good reception for it. People were calling, the vibe was good. The day of the event we got a lot of good feedback. A lot of people came to the door to buy tickets."

By the time Carrillo and Torres stepped between the ropes, you could feel the electricity in the air as the Colorado and New Mexico fans made themselves heard.

Based on the turnout and his passion for boxing, look for Utajara and 'Ghost Town Promotions' to bring fans another fight night sometime in the fall.

"It was a successful show and we're ready to do it again. We're looking to do something possibly in mid September."

Stay tuned as show information becomes available.
