After a historic Saturday night in the world's largest MMA promotion, here are 3 things that stood out from the rest.
1.) Anderson Silva's The Best Ever - If there was any doubt of this before, there shouldn't be after UFC 148. When looking at some of the other names that could be argued back and forth for 'the best ever' label, 'The Spider' crushes any and all numbers. There's not enough space to go through all the examples, i.e. most title defenses, most UFC wins, etc. but the bottom line is that Silva is the most dominant fighter Mixed Martial Arts has ever seen. Who's next?
2.) Tito Needed To Retire - In spite of his sick, miraculous, come from behind triangle win over Ryan Bader at UFC 132 that temporarily revived his MMA career, Tito still needed to hang'em up. No reason to further tarnish a Hall-Of-Fame worthy career racking up losses faster than Dan Hardy. His loss to Griffin marked the second time in just under two years that 'The Huntington Beach Bad Boy' dropped three straight in as many trips to the cage. If he were to fight again, it would likely be four losses in a row for the first time in his pro MMA career. Ride off into the sunset Tito and maybe even take a front office job from Dana White and crew.
3.) Cung Le Belongs In The UFC - Although Cung Le (8-2 MMA) is 40 years old and not quite proven in the octagon after a respectable Strikefore tenure, we can all agree that he at least belongs in the UFC. For now. After his decent showing against Wanderlei Silva in his UFC debut at UFC 139 and his victorious three round war versus Patrick Cote Saturday night, Le has shown his style works in the cage. For his efforts, he had to attend the post-fight press conference on crutches. Watch for Le to make at least two more trips to the octagon before looking at shutting it down. It was released to day that he will be out until October 6th due to post-fight medical suspension.
