'Wyoming Women vs. the World!'
Fall is busy for Wyoming's female fighters.
September 10th, Casper's Katie Moerke (3-1-0) took a last minute 115 title fight in Omaha, NE against 6-2-0 Summer Artherton. Both ladies were active standing and on the ground for 2 of the 3 four minute rounds. Summer and Katie exchanged strong punches and kicks, with Katie thwarting several takedown attempts by Summer.
Summer was relentless with her takedowns, with Katie reversing position each time on the ground. In the final round, Summer again landed a takedown approximately 2 minutes into the round and finished via ground and pound in mount. Artherton won via TKO.
September 25th, Casper's Staci Vega (2-6-0) faced off against Ft. Collins' Lynda Santiago (0-2) at 124lbs in the Battle at Thunder Mountain show in Loveland, CO. The two were slated to fight the week prior at 118, but this was delayed due to injury reported by Lynda. The first round of their amateur bout saw Lynda as the aggressor, throwing wild punches and attempting several takedowns.
Staci weathered the initial storm and began picking Lynda apart, reversing position on the cage and landing solid punches. The second round began much the same, with Lynda completing a takedown, landing in Staci's guard. Lynda was successful in landing a few strikes prior to Staci sweeping her into a match-winning armbar.
September 25th will see Kickdown MMA's first show under Wyoming's new MMA Commission.
Scheduled for this show are Staci Vega as well as this writer (Margaret Bloom) as co-main event. Opponents have not been confirmed but will likely be coming from out of state.
