Martinez showcased his wrestling skills, easily controlling Lara for most of the fight aside from Lara landing a few shots here and there.
When they were on their feet, the veteran Martinez was the more patient fighter working good knees and leg kicks where Lara chose to come in wild.
On a few occasions this led to Martinez being able to work Lara to the mat from the clinch or front headlock position.
On the ground, Martinez was always busy raining down fists and knees as Lara was many times found in the turtle position unable to get back up.
The win secured Martinez the alternate spot for the ongoing 'Bellator' heavyweight tournament.
