Chavez Jr. Finishes Manfredo In 5th

When the dust settled after Saturday nights Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (44-0-1, 31 KOs) vs. Peter Manfredo Jr. (37-7, 20 KOs) fight, fans were witness to two proud careers going in opposite directions.

Former IBO champion Manfredo Jr. was riding a six fight win streak coming into the night but was never really able to get anything going after a strong opening in addition to a solid fourth round.

On the flip-side, Chavez Jr. dominated most of the fight over the 30 year old Manfredo Jr. Manfredo held is own for the most part but got in trouble in the 5th

"This was my first time focusing on boxing, my first time focusing on defense, and I think it turned out pretty well," Chavez said during the post-fight interview.

While Manfredo was letting it be known he was going to call it a career following the disappointing loss, Chavez Jr. took to calling out some possible opponents in the future for the WBC champion.

"I want to fight the best.

"Martinez is a great champ, Canelo would be a great fight for the Mexican public, but it all depends on what my promoter says. But I fear no one."

As for Manfredo Jr., it looks like the sun has set on a respectable fight career. After first seeing his will in action on 'The Contender', I became a fan of his and followed his fights until the end on Saturday night. In spite of his list of accomplishments, even the man himself knew it was time to move on.

“I’m not an HBO fighter.”

It will be interesting to see how the young Chavez Jr. matures in his skills as he continues his road to the top.

See you at the fights!
