Here is a breakdown of the upcoming 'Airtight Combat Sports' Colorado boxing event by Colorado's own seasoned writer Stephen Johnson:

This Friday night, July 25th, Airtight Boxing (Steve Mestas)presents ‘So You Wanna Fight’ at Salon Madrid, 6495 N. Monaco St. in Commerce City, where in the main event light middleweights Raul ‘El Chino’ Carrillo (13-1, 7 KO’s) and Carlos ‘El Gallo’ Sanchez (6-6, 2 KO’s) tangle in a scheduled for 6 rounds bout.

Carrillo, who resides in Longmont, is one of Colorado’s most popular boxers, his lone defeat coming at the hands of Denver’sRobert ‘Red Hot’ Frankel back in 2012. Since then Carrillo has handled his business here in the state while waiting for the right opportunity to take his show on the road.

Sanchez is a veteran from Denver who desperately needs a good showing Friday night that being a huge mountain to climb against ‘El Chino’, Sanchez losing his last bout to Denver veteran Terry Buterbaugh in May of this year.

The co-main event should have every Colorado boxing fan in attendance as maybe two of the state’s most popular boxers go head-to-head in a light welterweight contest when Manny ‘Manos’ Perez (20-10-1, 4 KO’s) takes on Daniel Calzada (10-9-2, 2KO’s)in a scheduled for 6 rounds bout.

Perez and Calzada share one thing in common, neither able to get a fair shake when traveling into an opponent’s backyard.

Manny Perez (GRUDGE Gym) was the alleged loser in highly controversial bouts with Mercito Gesta (in Arizona),Paul McCloskey (in the United Kingdom), Vernon Paris (in Detroit) and Anton Novikov (in Puerto Rico), most seeing him victorious in all four.

Daniel Calzada (Poor Boys Boxing) has not had it easy when traveling to California, Las Vegas, Texas and New York, only to come up on the short end of the stick.

Calzada has a loss to Robert ‘Red Hot’ Frankel, that coming back in 2012, but has shown the grit and determination of a seasoned veteran making this fight one he looks forward to showing he is a force to be reckoned with.

These two bouts alone are well worth the money but when you add the more than attractive undercard of Esteban Nichol vs Ricky Rodriguez, Joey Montoya vs Leo Pla, Damien Autry vs Decker Duran, Seth Rodenbaugh vs Dylan Montelongo, Tommy Atencio vs Hilario Medina and Juan Medina vs Andre ‘Dre’ Graham, it just doesn’t get any better.

Doors open at 6:30PM, first bell promptly at 7:30PM with very few tickets remaining but keep your fingers crossed and call 720-298-1954.
