10 Gennady Gololvkin Facts - Boxing

At the time of this post, Gennady Golovkin had just steamrolled Daniel Geale in what was his 30th professional fight and his 30th win.

As 'GGG' continues his rise, he's already being talked about as an all-time great in some circles.

We can't be sure on his place in history just yet, but he is more than special when it comes to the 'Sweet Science'.

As we wait to see if Golovkin will become a household name, here are 10 things you might not know about the current WBA and IBO middleweight champion.


1.) In Golovkin's first fight of 2011, he defended his belt against former IBF Light Middleweight champion Kassim Ouma, defeating him in the 10th round by TKO

2.) Golovkin is one of four brothers

3.) He was a scholarship holder with the Olympic Solidarity program since November 2002

4.) In 2000, he won the Junior World Championships in Budapest.

5.)  When he was eight, both of his brothers joined the Russian army

6.) On August 14, 2010, Gennady Golovkin got his 1st major middleweight title

7.) He finished his amateur career with an outstanding record of 345-5

8.) GGG made his debut in American on HBO by battering, at the time, The Ring's #10 Rated Middleweight Grzegorz Proks

9.) Golovkin successfully defended his WBA title for the 4th time and IBO title for the 1st when he took on and defeated Japan's Makoto Fuchigami, earning a TKO victory in the 3rd round

10.) At the world championships 2005 he sensationally lost to Mohamed Hikal
