'Why We Love Combat'
'TheFightWire.com'
Why do we love combat?
What is it that draws the coaches, promoters, fighters, and fans to MMA and/or Boxing?
www.TheFightWire.com went straight to the source and posed the question to some of the standout representatives of the Rocky Mountain combat scene to find out.
Thanks to all of those that contributed. Here's what they had to say...
-"I love the fight game because there's nothing that tells you more about who you are than combat sports." - Leister Bowling III, CO Wrestling Authority, 'Elevation Fight Team' Head Coach
- "In the process of building fighters, I'm able to unconsciously rebuild people." - Gabe Charboneau, CO MMA Promoter, Head Coach 'Pacific Warrior MMA'
- "What I love about the fight game is the adrenaline rush you get when the cage door shuts and its just you and your opponent across from you. I just love to fight." - Ryan Martinez, 'Bellator MMA' Heavyweight Contender
- "I love it because I get to test myself on a daily basis, mentally and physically. I love the feeling of victory as well. All the hard work paying off and getting your hand raised at the end." - Todd Meredith, MMA Fighter, CO 'Fight Of The Year' Winner
- "I love the fight game because its sport at it purest, a true competition and test of skill, will, and intelligence." - Brandon Ortega, CO Boxing Promoter 'Sundown Entertainment'
- "The old saying goes, you can play baseball and football, but you don't play boxing. In order to make it in boxing, it has to become a lifestyle. There is no off season! - Raul Utajara, CO Boxing Authority, CO Boxing Promoter 'Ghost Town Promotions'
- "When I started boxing in '07 it was all about the extra cash. When I switched to MMA, it became a competition with myself to see how far I could make it. Now that I'm a champion, it's my job to be the best." - Johnny Bublich, Rising WY MMA Fighter
- "When I walk into that cage a calm comes over me that I haven't experienced at any other time in my life. I don't experience any emotion. Just a calm demeanor with a job to do. It draws me in and keeps me there. I'm addicted to the feeling." - Maureen Riordon, Coach At 'Fusboxe', CO MMA Fighter/Boxer
- "It's the most raw form of man to man combat. That's legal!" - Rocky Johnson, CO MMA Fighter
- "What I love about MMA is the preparation of mind, body, and soul, knowing once those doors lock on the cage, it's a battle of will. MMA has changed my life forever. I love Colorado MMA and everybody involved." - Anthony Alirez, CO MMA Heavyweight Fighter
- "I love that you grow to be a better person in combat sports and you have to depend on yourself first, then your team. It shows your pride and what you're all about." - Staci Vega, CO MMA Fighter/Boxer
- "Electricity, Showmanship, Announcing, Athletes..." - Steve Alley, Long Time 'Kickdown MMA' & 'Universal Fight Alliance' CO MMA Promoter
- "I respect combat athletes and how much dedication, hard work, and sacrifice they put into perfecting their craft to become future champions." - Adam Corchado, CO MMA Promoter 'Top Shelf Productions LLC'
- "My heart pumps, My muscles pulsate, a thousand historical warriors illuminate my soul! I see the opponent and my intention is to break his will. When the battle ends, we embrace in celebration at the spectacle of combat that we created. A thrilling moment between two combatants that dared to compete and put forth a show unlike any other battle previously seen." - Adrean 'Bumpy Chill' Jones, 'Supreme Striking' CO Promoter, Ring/Cage Announcer, Fighter
